Tell us a bit about yourself in 25 words or less...
Hi, I'm Geneva! I'm a desert rat, lounge lizard, & mama bird trying to live slowly and simply in the Mojave Desert of Southern California.
How did you end up living in Joshua Tree?
We moved to Joshua Tree from San Diego after baby Prairie was born. My husband and I always both loved growing up in small towns and we want to give that experience to our daughter. Joshua Tree is not your typical small American town though. People here are an eclectic bunch of artists, environmentalists, and dreamers. We love our off-beat community almost as much as we love the beauty of the desert!
What philosophy do you find yourself feeling more strongly about since becoming a parent?
Environmentalism. I worry about the world that our children and their children will inherit. I want our family to be part of the good change.
What’s the best piece of parenting advice you have received?
Probably the best advice is not to take other people's advice so seriously. If it works for you, then great! But at the end of the day, you know your child and family best.
What's the one thing you swore you would never do as a parent but have found yourself doing?
Everything?! Haha! Despite having nieces, I just was clueless going into having a baby. Honestly, I think I've surprised myself the most by how over protective I have the tendency to be. I thought I was gonna be the cool, laid back parent, but nope.
Can you share your go-to recipe for Prairie?
Well. Prairie loves plain unflavoured Greek yogurt, she throws pretty much everything else to the dog. So at the moment my secret recipe is steaming vegetables and blending them with yogurt. Yummy!
